UK - Cornwall - Padstow

Cornwall – Padstow

Through serious internet searching (gouging?), Pen had managed to get us 3 nights’ accommodation at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, a small Cornish fishing town on the Camel River estuary, which has expanded along with Rick Stein’s fame. It is often referred to locally as “Padstein” due to his influence – as well as his original Seafood Restaurant he now has a Café, a Deli, a gift shop, a fish and chip shop, a pub, a seafood cooking school, a fishmongers and various types of accommodation, and that’s just in Padstow! The accommodation was excellent, just behind and above the restaurant and right in the middle of town. We didn’t manage to see the great man although he was in town at a sold-out function at his cooking school. We had to content ourselves with eating at several of his establishments (the Café, Fish and Chip shop and Seafood Restaurant) as well as buying some tourist trinkets at his gift shop. Padstow is a neat, scenic Cornish fishing town, opposite a small town named Rock on the other side of the estuary, and has some great walks along the cliff tops - all part of the huge South Coast Way, a walk running around the entire Cornish and Devon coasts. Food was, of course, excellent with seafood featuring prominently.
